A רבי noticed that his servant was trying to hide a bottle of wine that had been left on the table. “What’s in the bottle?” he asked. “Water,” the servant responded. “If so,” said the רבי, “give me some to drink. I’m thirsty.” After taking a drink, the רבי said: “Now I understand why שלמה המלך, the wisest of all men, said: מים גנובים ימתקו.”
