We are informed by רש״י that Pharaoh told the Egyptians to go to יוסף and אשר יאמר לכם תעשו so that he would tell them שימולו. But why would he want them to be circumcised? רב יהונתן אייבשיץ answered that יוסף was concerned that in the future אפיקורסים may not want to circumcise their children, but if they see that’s what the גוים do, they will want to copy their ways.
