A congregant complained to his רב that he’s within the year for his father but the מתפללים won’t let him be חזן. When the רב asked why, he said that the מתפללים thought his voice wasn’t good and that he took too long. The רב responded that “All you are חייב to say is קדיש. Your father made you a יתום, not a חזן.”
