A husband and wife came before a רב and asked for a divorce. Trying to reconcile them, the רב said “הלא אמרו חז״ל: כל המגרש אשתו ראשונה, אפילו מזבח מוריד עליו דמעות.” The husband responded: “Until now, I was the one that was מוריד דמעות. From here on in, let the מזבח do it.”
