A חסיד came to the רבי for advice. “רבי, I don’t know what to do,” he said. “My daughter is of marriageable age and has met a boy from a fine family and they want to get married.” Not understanding what the חסיד was getting at, the רבי said “So what’s the question? Give him your daughter בשעה טובה ומוצלחת.” “But רבי,” the חסיד muttered. “I think the בחור has a חיסרון. When the רבי asked what it was, the חסיד said “I think he’s קצת אפיקורס.” Immediately, the רבי said ה׳ ישמרך משידוך כזה. It would be better if she married the poor son of a shoemaker or tailor than living with an אפיקורס.” “But רבי,” the חסיד stuttered, “I’m concerned that my daughter also has a חיסרון. I think she’s קצת מעוברת.”
