The מלבי״ם was asked whether the תקנה of רבינו גרשום on the איסור of opening and reading a letter was applicable to a postcard, where the writing is in the open and visible. Citing today’s דף, the מלבי״ם replied: “He’s חייב on the פתיחה and כל שכן on the קריאה. The גמרא says about one who opens a בור that על הפתיחה הוא חייב, על הכרייה לא כל שכן.”
