In pre-war Poland, a bystander saw that the police had arrested a Jew and were taking him to prison. “What did you do?” the bystander asked. “Nothing,” the Jew responded. “I found a rope in the market and picked it up.” Surprised, the man asked: “And for that they arrest you?” The man under arrest answered: “Yes. How was I supposed to know that there was a horse tied to the rope?”
