A תלמיד חכם was asked: “There is a common expression ‘שיכור כלוט.’ What was it that caused לוט to be so drawn to drinking?” The תלמיד חכם replied: “Because his wife was a pillar of salt, which of course made him thirsty. And it also explains why לוט chose to live in סדום, a city of evil. It was because, as stated in פרשת לך לך, he saw “כי כלה משקה.”
