Four רבנים, all גדולי תורה, had a serious disagreement concerning a matter of Halacha. Three held one way, and hard as they tried, they couldn’t convince the fourth that their position was correct. Ultimately, they told the dissenting רב “It’s three against one and the רוב is קובע.” The dissenter refused to concede. “I don’t care if it’s three to one,” he said. “I know I’m right.” Turning his eyes to Heaven, he said: “רבונו של עולם, I know that תורה לא בשמים, but tell them that I’m right!” Suddenly, the clear blue sky turned pitch black. There was thunder and lightning and a booming בת קול declared “He’s right!!!” The other three רבנים shrugged their shoulders and said “So, now it’s three against two.”
