Centuries ago, two brothers were partners in a farm which they inherited from their father on the outskirts of Yerushalayim. The older brother had a wife and children. The younger brother was single. At harvest time, the two brothers shared the produce fifty/fifty. That night, the older brother had difficulty sleeping, saying to himself that it wasn’t fair that his brother, who didn’t have a wife and children to support, was getting an equal share with him. At the same time, the younger brother was awake, thinking that the split wasn’t fair because he had no one who would care for him in his old age. In short, each brother decided to steal a bit from the other. They approached the barn almost simultaneously and immediately began cursing one another. And, the legend has it that it was on that very spot after all those centuries that the Knesset was built in Yerushalayim.
