A Gypsy stood in the middle of the town square playing his flute. Beside him was an overturned pot on which a goose was happily dancing to the music. People gathered round and dropped coins into the Gypsy’s hat. After the performance, a wealthy man approached the Gypsy and asked to buy the goose. After some negotiation, they agreed upon price and the goose was sold. Within a few days, the buyer was back and complained that the goose wasn’t dancing. “Did you put it on an overturned pot?” the Gypsy asked. “Yes,” said the buyer. “Did you play the flute?” asked the Gypsy. “Of course,” the buyer answered. “Oh,” the Gypsy said, “I forgot one detail. Did you light a candle under the pot?”
