R’ אהרן of Chernobil once asked ר׳ דוד משה of Tchortkov how many גבאים he had.  ר׳ דוד משה answered five: one to stand on duty at the door to his study; the second to find accommodations for his חסידים; the third to look after the cleaning; the fourth to make purchases; and the fifth to oversee travel arrangements.  ר׳ אהרן said that he also has five גבאים with the same responsibilities but also employs a sixth.  “What does he do?” ר׳ דוד משה asked.  “He’s the most important of all,” ר׳ אהרן answered.  “He stands besides me all day and whenever I say something, he murmurs: ‘Brilliant!  Absolutely brilliant!’”
