Two men in a small town appointed themselves as “צדיקים,” each with his own “חסידים,” who would constantly argue and fight with each other.  Seeing this, a חכם remarked: “As the תורה tells us, אברהם אבינו asked the רבונו של עולם to spare סדום, saying  אולי יש חמישים צדיקים בעיר.  This is surprising because one can legitimately ask: ‘Isn’t it a קל וחומר that when there are only two צדיקים in an עיר they will be the source of מחלוקות, then if there are fifty על אחת כמה וכמה?’  From this we see that what אברהם אבינו was asking the רבונו של עולם was ‘Why do You need to send מלאכים להפוך את סדום?  If there are fifty צדיקים, it is מובטח לך שיהפכו את העיר.'”
