מכות יב

A מתנגד said to a חסיד: “Look at the difference between us.  When we finish the תפילה, we immediately learn a פרק of משניות and say קדיש דרבנן.  But you, the חסידים, before אשרי ובא לציון are finished, you’re already drinking a לחיים.”  “You’re right,” responded the חסיד.  “But it’s only natural.  Your תפילה is dead and the דין is that when משניות is learned for the dead, it is followed by קדיש.  Our תפילה, however, is full of joy and life and the מנהג is to celebrate life with a לחיים.”
