מכות יט

Two brothers, שמעון and לוי were fighting over the ירושה from their father.  The day before the court hearing, שמעון said to his lawyer:  “Perhaps I should send a gift to the Judge?”  The lawyer responded:  “No way.  He’s an honest Judge and will be furious if you send him something.  He’ll rule against you.”  The following day, the trial was held and the Judge ruled in favor of שמעון.  As they left the courthouse, his lawyer said:  “It’s a good thing you listened to me and didn’t send him a gift.  You would have lost the case.”  שמעון laughed and said “It’s a good thing that I didn’t listen to you.  I sent him a gift – in the name of לוי.”
