It was a few minutes before closing time and, after a long and hard day, as the salesman was getting ready to go home, in walks a customer.  “I’d like to see your selection of ties,” he said.  The salesman took out a box of ties and spread a selection of them on the counter.  “I wanted to see something a bit flashier,” said the customer.  The salesman took out another box of ties and placed them on the counter.  “Do you have ties with more red?” the man asked.  A half hour later, the salesman looked at his watch but brought out another box.  “These are beautiful,” he said to the customer.  “I’m sorry, they’re not what I had in mind,” said the customer.  “But don’t let it bother you.  I wasn’t planning to actually buy anything.  I was just looking for my father.”   Looking at the watch and all the ties strewn over the counter, the salesman said: “I’ll give you a dozen ties for free – absolutely free – if you’ll answer just one question.”   “Why of course,” responded the customer.  “What’s the question?”  “If you were just looking for your father, what made you think that you could find him in one of these boxes?”
