A גוי was complaining to his Jewish neighbor that his home had been robbed for the fourth time.  “I know that you place a mezuzah on the door as protection.  Can I put one on my door as well?” he asked.  The Jew told him that he knew of no reason that would prevent him from doing so.  Shortly thereafter, the גוי got a mezuzah and placed it on his front door.   However, a few weeks later, the Jew met him on the street and said: “I notice that you removed the mezuzah.  What happened?”  “It was cheaper to deal with the robbers than with all the collectors who came to my door.”
