הוריות י

When the קהילה of a town heard that the two daughters of their רב were not conducting themselves as בנות ישראל, they began to murmur against the רב.  As שבת approached, his detractors argued that he shouldn’t be given the honor of being called up for שישי.  A תלמיד חכם, however, argued that they were mistaken.  “In listing the מלכי מדין, the תורה says ‘את אוי, ואת רקם ואת צור,” he said. “רש״י asks: צור was the most important of them.  Why was he listed third?  Because he was מפקיר his daughter, כזבי, to זנות.”  “From this we see,” the תלמיד חכם said, “that for being מפקיר one daughter he got שלישי.  Thus, our רב, who was מפקיר two daughters, is entitled to שישי.”
