The רב in a Russian town was a difficult man and wasn’t liked by his קהילה.  When the city of Pinsk was looking for a new Rabbi, this רב sought to be appointed.  But the people of Pinsk knew his reputation and were looking elsewhere.  The determined רב said to them:  “I can show you from a קל וחומר that you should appoint me as your רב.  If the people in my city don’t want me as רב there but want me to be appointed as רב of Pinsk, then the people of Pinsk, who do want me to remain in my city, על אחת כמה וכמה should want me to be רב of Pinsk.”
