The author of a ספר brought it to רבי מנשה מאיליה to get his הסקם. After reviewing it, the רבי saw that the entire ספר consisted of פילפולים by way of קל וחומר. The רבי invited his guest to dine with him, but when the soup was served, the guest saw that there was only a fork on the table, no spoon. “Why aren’t you eating?” the host asked. The author responded that soup can’t be eaten with a fork. “Nevertheless,” said רבי מנשה, “you should eat. הרי דברים קל וחומר: מה דגים הנאכלים במזלג נאכלים גם בכף, מרק הנאכל בכף ודאי שהוא נאכל במזלג.”
