An אברך who was learning שחיטה couldn’t remember whether שחיטה comes before בדיקה or
A teenager from a respected family fell in with the wrong crowd and had become a גנב. His family took him to ר׳ חיים דוד מאנזון, who chastised him and said: “I know you’re a בן תורה. How are you not embarrassed?” The teenager responded: “The גמרא says: רובא גנבי – ישראל נינהו. And the תורה says אחרי רבים להטות.” The רב replied: “First of all, with respect to אחרי רבים להטות, the תורה says לא תהיה אחרי רבים לרעות. Secondly, חז״ל didn’t say רוב ישראל גנבי נינהו. They said רובא גנבי ישראל נינהו. And the תורה said לא מרובכם מכל העמים חשק ה׳ בכם, which is to say it’s not because you’re a majority amongst the nations that you are the chosen nation. And finally, the eighth commandment, לא תגנוב, is also something.”
