An עם הארץ who became wealthy purchased a seat at the כותל המזרח in shul near the רב. One שבת, he turned to the רב and asked: “Could you explain why קריאת שמע says ונתתי עשו בשדך. How did עשו get into קריאת שמע?” The רב smiled and said: “It’s simple: עשו was very wealthy, so he bought a spot in קריאת שמע.”
