At a שמחת פורים in the Volozhiner Yeshiva, the בחור chosen to deliver the “פורים דרשה” had too much to drink and did not speak respectfully about the ראש ישיבה. In response, the ראש ישיבה said: “Why do we check a slaughtered בהמה by the lungs, which is a difficult task for the שוחט? Why not check it while it’s alive by giving the animal alcohol to drink and then examining its tongue, since there is a saying that מה שאצל פיכח על הריאה, אצל שיכור על הלשון – what is on the lung of a בהמה is on the tongue? Apparently, this כלל only applies to בני אדם ולא על בהמה.”
