A ירושלמי came to see רבי דוד לוריה in חוץ לארץ. “I don’t live here,” the ירושלמי said. ובאתרא דלא ידעי שרא למימר צורבא מרבנן אנא.” The רב, seeing that the man had neither חכמה nor תורה, told him that he had previously seen him and that he was wasting his time. “The רב is mistaken,” the ירושלמי said. “This is my first time here.” Nevertheless, the רב responded, “דאה וראה ואייה אחת היא – עומדת בבבל ורואה נבילה בארץ ישראל.”
